Racial justice is a wide and complex concept that speaks to the need for individuals and communities to transform social, political, and economic environments in order to uproot the legacies of racism and remedy its effects. It is concerned with actively challenging and eliminating all systemic, structural, and institutional forms of discrimination and oppression borne out of racial hierarchy, preference and privilege; exercising greater empathy and compassion towards those disproportionately excluded, harmed, and marginalised by these systemically nuanced forms of oppression; and building up more equitable, equitable, and just societies. No amount of legislation, rhetoric, or social reform can be considered true racial justice until we have dismantled the insidious roots of white supremacy, capitalism, and patriarchy.
